Intercultural Conflict Management
Why?
Conflicts in an intercultural context are far more complex than any others.
Culture related differences in perception and interpretation alone can already lead to misunderstandings and
conflict. The ways of dealing with conflict differ strongly according to the particular system of values or cultural
orientation. A lack in knowledge on the specific foreign conflict behaviour as well as prejudices and stereotypes
can make it extremely difficult to judge the opposites behaviour correctly. The outcome is often not only frustration
and disappointment but also dislike and incapability of action.
For whom?
This workshop is meant to support anyone who cooperates with people from another culture in a variety of
settings. For example:
- with international suppliers
- distributing products or services on international markets
- as an employee or executive for an international subsidiary or headquarters abroad
- as a member of an international team
Objectives:
• to establish knowledge on culture related conflict styles
• to develop the ability to deal with conflicts in an interculturally suitable way
• to maintain the capacity to act effectively in difficult situations
• to recognise conflicts as a challenge and a potential chance to develop and enhance relationships with each
other
This workshop is comprised of:
• Getting to know the variety in conflict and conflict solution styles across cultures
• Reflecting on your own individual conflict behaviour and the effect it has on others
• Exploring the underlying values
• Analysing different sources of conflict
• Recognising the dynamics of an escalation
• establishing deescalating ways of communication
Organisational Framework:
• Open workshop for specialists and executives from different backgrounds (max. 10 participants)
• In-house workshop
• Participants who share the same culture or come from different cultures
• The focus on a specific culture or a multicultural context
• Duration: 2-3 days
• Language: English or German
